A Word from Colin:
Given a little encouragement, I’ve found that actors can work out how to play a space very quickly, if we’re on ‘receive’ rather than ‘transmit’. Gently and playfully, we’ll just notice the space we’re in, and becomes ‘masters’ of it.
We’ll canter through a series of light-spirited, enjoyable exercises, playing with Circles of Concentration, proximity, eye-contact, and ‘walking the angles’.
We will be on our feet a lot of the time, but nothing risky or too energetic. There will be time for discussion, but it will be specifically reflecting on our experience and discoveries while playing on our feet, rather than general theorizing.
I’ve been a professional actor since 1981, mostly theatre, lots of Shakespeare, most recently with Shakespeare’s Globe, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and The Factory Theatre Company, who specialise in pop-up, stripped–back performances of Shakespeare’s plays in unconventional playing spaces.
Over the last 25 years I have led hundreds of workshops and dozens of courses at Shakespeare’s Globe, and teach regularly on the Shakespeare Summer School, Semester and MA Classical acting courses at LAMDA,
See you there!
