The British Empire was at its worst  in 1890, failing , and basically killing the fantastic Gay Irish writer Oscar Wilde. “ The Picture of Dorian Gray “ was his only Novel. Cancelled of course, but his plays are timeless.

Charlie Bird , who played Falstaff and Macbeth in 2024, has adapted Wilde's novel, and brings his Bird Brain Theatre with their new show.

Charlie had success with The SEAGULL, ( 2 times in reprise at Mikes Badht) and also The TRIAL by Kafka .

Synopsis : In 1882, Oscar Wilde met Frances Richards the painter in Ottawa, where he visited her studios. she painted his portrait. Wilde described that incident as being the inspiration for his novel:

The story revolves around a portrait of Dorian Gray painted by an artist infatuated with Dorian's beauty. Dorian , a narcissist ,understands that his beauty will fade as he gets old , so Dorian makes a deal to sell his soul, to ensure that the PICTURE , rather than he, will age and fade. The wish is granted, BUT of course Ends badly for DORIAN in this Classic Gothic Novel.
